Happy Labor Day Weekend, Mondial!

Happy Labor Day weekend, Mondial residents! What will you be doing to celebrate? While many associate Labor Day weekend with the end of summer, incredible sales and the start of football season (college and pro), it is important not to forget what the holiday is really celebrating.

The first Labor Day celebration took place in 1882 when proposed by Matthew Maguire, secretary of the Central Labor Union.  Some say that it was actually Peter J. McGuire of the AFL, who was inspired by the annual labor festival in Toronto, Canada. By 1884, 30 states officially celebrated Labor Day, starting with Oregon, who made it a holiday in 1887.  It became a federal holiday in 1894.

Enjoy your days off, and make sure you do something special to celebrate the workers’ social and economic contributions.  Pay tribute to American workers and their many achievements.
