Lillstreet Art Center
A local favorite since 1975, Lillstreet Art Center welcomes everyone from beginners to professional artists. It offers an alternative space to connect and find community. Students work side-by-side in a supportive environment and can learn at their own pace. Also, the instructors encourage everyone to create fearlessly. They provide exciting lessons and offer tours of the facility to ensure the programs are a perfect fit.
One of the most popular classes is the Botanical Watercolors class. The instructor takes everyone to a local plant conservatory. This helps students enhance their botanical knowledge as well as gain valuable observational skills.
At Talisman Glass, the artists use glass and other structural materials to create large pieces of functional and decorative art. Founder Sharon Gilbert discovered the art of glassblowing in college. She mastered the essentials. Ever since, she has enjoyed helping others learn this exciting medium.
First-time students start with beginner glassblowing. In this class, students learn the fundamentals of controlling molten glass to form an array of shapes. The classes are on Saturdays, and they include a break for lunch.
Art Institute of Chicago
The Art Institute of Chicago offers one-day workshops and multi-session classes that allow students to cultivate their creativity while learning about the techniques of the artists showcased in the museum.
Try Sketchbook—A Collector’s Habit. In this class, participants use their daily observations to learn the art of sketching. Instructor Leslie Baum has years of experience. Also, her paintings are found in the institute’s permanent collection.
