Summer Festivals Near Mondial River West

Mondial River West is located in the River West area of Chicago.  Minutes from the Blue Line, these luxurious apartments are also close to the Loop, River North, Bucktown, and Wicker Park.  The amenities of these beautiful apartments are numerous but probably one of the best features of the Mondial River West Apartments is the proximity to some of Chicago’s best and biggest summertime festivals and events.


The Chicago Blues Festival in Grant Park will be held from June 10-12.  With free admission, this festival is the largest in the world and “remains the largest of Chicago’s music festivals.”  During this three-day festival, music lovers can listen to live music on five different stages.  Started in 1984, the Chicago Blues Festival opens the summer festival season.  This year, acts such as Shemekia CopelandFred Wesley & the New JB’s, and Eddy Clearwater will be playing.

The 69th Annual 57th Street Art Fair will be held on June 4th and 5th in Hyde Park next to the University of Chicago.  This “oldest juried art fair in the Midwest” features work from over 200 artists and exhibitors.  Run completely by volunteers; this festival features all kinds of art, music, and food.

The 2016 Printers Row Lit Fest will be held from June 11 – 12 in Printers Row and features two full days of author programs, books, food, and music.  Considered to be the “largest free outdoor literary event in the Midwest” this festival draws close to 150,000 people.  Located in Chicago’s historic Printers Row, the Printers Row Lit Fest book lovers can browse new, used, and antiquarian books.


The Annual Taste of Chicago will be held from July 6 – 10th in Grant Park.  This festival is free and features restaurants, food trucks, music, and special dining experiences for festival attendees.  With endless options from some of Chicago’s best known and loved restaurants such as Gold Coast Dogs, La Bomba Restaurant, Vee-Vee’s African Restaurant, Pastoral Artisan Cheese, Bread & Wine, and Riva there is something or practically everyone.  Concerts from The Roots, Kongos, The Decemberists, Billy Idol, and the Isley Brothers are performing at the Petrillo Music Shell.

The Grant Park Music Festival features free classical music throughout the summer.  Held at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park and other venues, the festival is the “nation’s only free, outdoor classical music series.”  This collaboration between the Grant Park Orchestral Association, the city of Chicago, and the Chicago Park District features performances from Andrew von Oeyen, Alisa Jordheim, and Storm Large.


The 57th Annual Chicago Air and Water Show will be held on August 20 and 21st at North Avenue Beach.  This free show is presented by Shell and the city of Chicago, giving attendees a thrill on Lake Michigan.  With nearly two million attending this is the “largest free admission air and water exhibition of its kind in the United States.”

The Chicago Hot Dog Fest held by the Chicago History Museum will be held on August 5th -7th.  The festival is free to the public and will be at Clark & LaSalle Streets.  This three-day event will have food, beverages, and exhibitors.  In its third year, the Chicago Hot Dog Fest benefits the Chicago History Museum.
