The Field Museum of Natural History

Less than twenty minutes from Mondial River West is one of the largest natural history museums in the world. It’s known as The Field Museum of Natural History, and the incredible exhibits draw approximately two million visitors every year. Some of the exhibits you’ll explore include:

Underground Adventure – Here you will get a unique bug-eye view of the world, as well as see creatures such as wolf spiders, giant mole crickets, and crayfish.

Pawnee Earth Lodge – Step back in time to the 1800s to learn about Pawnee Indians. Inside the full-size abode replica, you will see a buckskin dress and replicas of beadwork, pottery, and weaponry made from the same materials Native Americans once used. You can also sit on buffalo-robed beds, star gaze, and hear about the Pawnee’s life and legends from knowledgeable docents.

McDonald’s Fossil Prep Lab – The McDonald’s Fossil Prep Lab gives visitors a unique look as the museum’s scientists prepare ancient specimens for study.

Inside Ancient Egypt – This exhibit features one of the largest collection of mummies in the United States, along with floor-to-ceiling hieroglyphics and artifacts that related to everyday life such as ceramics, games, and jewelry.

Hall of Jades – Journey through China’s history (starting with prehistoric burials) to see more than 450 jade objects.

Sue the T. Rex – This exhibit is home to “Sue,” the best preserved and most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex ever discovered. More than ninety percent intact, Sue is one of the museum’s most popular photo opportunities.
